John has been a Director of C. Le Masurier Limited since 1971, and a significant shareholder since 1959. He is the last of the fourth generation of the Clarke family to sit as a Board member; the family have been represented on the Board since 1911 when the, then 76 year old family business, was incorporated as a limited company.
John is Jersey born and was educated at Victoria College before studying at the Royal Veterinary College of London University. After a career as a veterinary surgeon in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and finally, from 1971, in Jersey John retired and sold his veterinary practice in 2002.
John has long-held an interest in and is passionate about Jersey’s history, its natural and historic built environments. Since retirement John has served on various committees of the Société Jersiaise (Jersey’s historical society) which he has been a member of since his return to Jersey in 1971, active in the Archaeology section since 1990. He has served on various committees and was elected president of the Société in 2009 for a three year term; he remains Chairman of the Société’s Archaeology section.
